To MW of NY: I got 790 on the English SAT and have a Ph.D.
You have given out complete MISinformation. There is NO SUCH WORD as "alot." Try finding it in a dictionary if you don't believe me. Google even has a whole tutorial on this common spelling error. SpellCheck is correct on this one, and you are all wrong!

my nephew aaron sanchez is only a junior in high school plays baseball for that school and he's ripping them out 6 home runs already and they just started there season someone better have a look at this kid he's awsome

My daughter's school isn't even mentioned despite the fact it has the third highest number of Intel Science finalist in the country, an incredible music program, dozens of AP courses, dozens of graduated going off to the Ivy League. Another US News and World Report list of "the best" using dodgy unscientific methodology and an elitist bias.

UWCs are top ten in the world not just the USA - Look up UWC Armand Hammer - the criteria is wrong if this school did not make top 10!

I would recommend to closely watch UWC-USA because this high school definitely deserves to be in the top high schools list.

Apparently you have forgot much since your days in HS back in the '60s. The Merrian-Webster dictionary has no entry for alot. Searching for alot from their website will forward you to the entry for Lot. Under synonyms you will find a (space) lot to mean:
1: to a considerable degree or extent <this is a lot nicer>
2: often , frequently <runs a lot every day>
3: lots

actually alot is not a word...in the English language a "lot" is a large group of something so the saying "a lot" means a large group of not just a plot of land. Microsoft word is correct.

Actually "alot" is quite correct, unless you are referring to single lot, as in Real Estate. Unfortunately, writing programs like "Word" always correct "alot" to "a lot", regardless of context, and one must override this erroneous type of edit. Too bad the critic is a person who apparently takes his/her grammar and usage lessons from a computer program just assumes the computer must be correct [It is not!] and chooses to remain anonymous. [Btw, I attended Hunter College HS, which is why I was reading these postings. I got 788 on my English SAT, "back in the day" of the late '60's, so I think I know whereof I opine.]
